I know of nobody who tunes their guitar DF#BEAD. I do know of a similar 5-string banjo tuning F#BEAD. Turkish ouds are usually tuned EF#BEAD or C#F#BEAD.

Having tried open D and open G tunings, I stumbled on this one about 20 years ago. John Renbourn listed it as a tuning used on one song on one album. Ingrate that I am, I forgot both the album and the song's title. I was too broke to buy it. Renbourn's tuning was EG#C#F#BE. I raised it a half step to FADGCF and played that way for 15 years. It was at times, a little brittle. About five years ago, I dropped it down to DF#BEAD and I'm much happier with it.

D major and minor are this tuning's most natural keys. However, B minor, A major and A minor are also easily facilitated. I use medium gauge strings and play with my fingernails and Swiss Zither picks for my thumb.
