A free-wheeling group of 1960s acoustic guitarist/singers whom I like to call the British Non-Traditional Traditionalists seemed to hear the ballads, the blues, Zen teaching tales, and Beat Poetry (for instance) as different expressions of the same thing. They seemed to see the music they made from these elements as a prototype for a new popular music.
